“Look out for children at play, check on your elderly neighbors who live alone, visit that sick neighbor who has been hospitalized or a mother with the new baby, or hold a ladder for a neighbor trimming a tree. We are all in this together and part of a great community!” David Burns – Six Mile Creek Homeowner’s Association President
The Six Mile Creek homeowner’s association is very active and even includes a “Waterfowl Committee”. Why would a neighborhood need a Waterfowl Committee you ask? Well, Six Mile Creek is well known throughout Viera for it’s beautiful swan population. If you enjoy bird watching you can see swans in and around all the lakes throughout Six Mile Creek. The original swans were donated and paid for in full by the Six Mile Creek developer, Mr. Jean Yves Clerc. The swans were a gift to the residents of Six Mile Creek and at no time has the Six Mile Creek Homeowners’ Association purchased any swans or paid for any of the swans’ upkeep or medical bills since. The swan’s care is paid for strictly from donations to the Waterfowl Committee. And through care from the Six Mile Creek residents the swan population has flourished.
In 2012 a large number of cygnets (baby swans) were born and in fact one of their nests was at the end of a lake visible from Murrell Road. Before the cygnets were born it was not uncommon to see dozens of cars on the side of the road taking pictures and enjoying the rare swan beauty. Why not stop by and see the beautiful Six Mile Creek swans for yourself!
The homeowner’s association also maintains a website with helpful information such as electric service, water service, bus schedules and more. Not sure who to call for repairs on your home? Check out Six Mile Creek’s “preferred contractor” list to see who has already done quality work within the neighborhood for other satisfied residents.
The association even publishes a monthly newsletter in electronic format and provides helpful information about lawn watering days, trash collection schedules and community events.
